Soil legacy effects and plant—soil feedback contribution to secondary succession processes

چکیده

Secondary succession is the process by which a community develops into climax over time. However, knowledge on mechanisms, relating to soil legacy effects (soil chemistry and enzyme activity) plant—soil feedback (PSF), driving remains limited. In this work, we examined PSF associated with three stage species through 2-year greenhouse experiment. Setaria viridis, Stipa bungeana, Bothriochloa ischemum were selected represent dominant representative early-, mid-, late-successional species, respectively, of semiarid grasslands Loess Plateau. response different origin, shoot biomass late-species all higher when grown in their own than other species’ soils, indicated that positive. Over two growth periods, early-species experienced negative PSF, but mid- negative, neutral positive late-species, respectively. Our study demonstrates have significant impact processes.

Legacy effects of grassland management on soil carbon to depth.

The importance of managing land to optimize carbon sequestration for climate change mitigation is widely recognized, with grasslands being identified as having the potential to sequester additional carbon. However, most soil carbon inventories only consider surface soils, and most large-scale surveys group ecosystems into broad habitats without considering management intensity. Consequently, li...

: examining l2 teachers’ corrective feedback types in relation to learners’ uptake, proficiency levels, and context types

abstract this study investigates the teachers’ correction of students’ spoken errors of linguistic forms in efl classes, aiming at (a) examining the relationship between the learners’ proficiency level and the provision of corrective feedback types, (b) exploring the extent to which teachers’ use of different corrective feedback types is related to the immediate types of context in which err...

Liana effects on biomass dynamics strengthen during secondary forest succession.

Secondary forests are important carbon sinks, but their biomass dynamics vary markedly within and across landscapes. The biotic and abiotic drivers of this variation are still not well understood. We tested the effects of soil resource availability and competition by lianas on the biomass dynamics of young secondary tropical forests in Panama and assessed the extent to which liana effects were ...

Nitrification Potentials in Primary and Secondary Succession'

Potential nitrogen mineralization and nitrification were measured in soils from a primary successional sequence developed on sand dunes and from a secondary successional sequence on old fields. Potential nitrogen mineralization in soils from the primary sere increased through the first five stages and then leveled off. Nitrogen mineralization was relatively constant in soils from the secondary ...
